RFID success story

By John Gallant
NetworkWorld.com, 10/25/05

You hear a lot about RFID tags on pallets and containers, but we haven't heard of any companies putting RFID tags on individual pieces of retail merchandise. But Vortex 2005 panelist David Bergen, senior vp and CIO of Levi Strauss & Co. said he tried RFID tags on Levis being sold in a store in Mexico and the results were amazing.

Bergen said the store was being plagued by ``shrinkage,'' and that doesn't mean the jeans were getting smaller. But the inventory was. Once each pair or pants was tagged, shrinkage went down to zero, inventory management went from something that was done once a month to something that happened every 20 minutes and the whole experiment has been deemed an unqualified success.
