Sprint makes acquisition
NetworkWorld.com, 04/20/06
Sprint Nextel announced today that it is buying UbiquiTel for $1.3 billion.
UbiquiTel is the fifth Sprint affiliate the service provider has acquired since it closed its merger deal with Nextel last year, according to a Network World story.
While Sprint expands its customer base with the deal it also is addressing a legal problem.
A group of Sprint affiliates filed suit against the carrier expressing concerns on how they would be treated post-merger.
UbiquiTel was the last of the larger affiliates that were still independent. As part of the deal, the legal dispute is being put on hold.
