Interop is here, but where are the carriers?

Vendors, users, analyst and media gather this week in Las Vegas as the 20th Interop show begins.

In its twenty years Interop has gone through many changes as it transforms from a monster show taking up much of the Las Vegas Convention Center, to a much more manageable event hosted here at Mandalay Bay this year.
But the focus is still on networking. John Chambers, Cisco’s president and CEO, kicked off the expo with his keynote speech as he has in years past.
One thing that is different, especially from my coverage perspective, is the much smaller presence of service providers. Verizon and Sprint do not have a presence at the show. While AT&T does, it is much more scaled back than in previous years with no news to speak of.
Perhaps the majority of the telecom service providers are finding it more beneficial to put their efforts toward more telecom-oriented shows such as TelecomNext?
For more on the happenings at the show stay tuned to our site as reporters will be filing stories throughout the next few days.
