Verizon Business wants to be your TEM vendor
NetworkWorld.com, 05/15/06
Telecom expense management (TEM) can initially be costly, but more users believe the benefits outweigh the cost.
According to Gartner, customers are expected to spend $550 million on TEM services and tools this year. In 2005 users spent $445 million.
But will users buy such services from one of the very carriers responsible for the bills and services that cost users millions annually?
Verizon Business is giving it a whirl. Read more about their offering announced today in our story.
Industry watchers say that TEM services and tools generally cost .75% up to 1.5% of a customer’s total annual telecom spend. That translates to $75,000 to $150,000 for a customer that spends $10 million on telecom annually.
And Verizon says that’s the type of customer it’s targeting with its new offer, customers that spend at least $10 million on telecom services annually.
Verizon’s offering allows customers to track wireline and wireless assets, services and the telecom bills associated with both.
But how users will feel about handing over management of these expenses to one of the largest telecom services providers isn’t clear. Is it a case of putting the fox in charge of the hen house? Would you let your service provider audit all of your telecom bills and manage your telecom expenses?
