Skype offering free calling
NetworkWorld.com, 05/16/06
Skype is trying to win over more North American customers by offering free Internet calling from the U.S. and Canada to any landline or mobile phone in those countries.
Skype calls these off ‘net calls SkypeOut. The company, which is owned by eBay, announced the new plan Monday.
Skype offers free international and long-distance calls to other Skype users, but typically charges customers for calls made from the Internet to landline or mobile phones.
The company is trying to increase usage in the U.S. and Canada, which has been slow to grow compared to usage in China and Europe. The North American promotion is available until yearend.
