He said, she said, or USA Today says and the carriers deny
NetworkWorld.com, 05/17/06
All three major carriers that were accused of illegally handing over customer call records to the National Security Agency have denied those allegations.
On Monday, BellSouth issued a statement saying it hasn’t provided private customer information illegally. On Tuesday, Verizon essentially did the same. Today AT&T responded to Network World via e-mail denying the allegations that were printed in a USA Today news story last week.
It’s not clear if we will ever fully know what the NSA requested, how it accessed call records or if carriers fully complied without proper legal steps in place.
Today Congress is being briefed by the NSA, but we don’t know what will be revealed since all parties involved keep calling this NSA program highly sensitive.
Do you think the NSA should have carte blanche in its efforts to track down terrorists? Does this NSA program and legislation like the Patriot Act go too far and sacrifice our civil liberties?
Drop us a line if you want to share your thoughts.
