‘Net neutrality legislation in the works
NetworkWorld.com, 05/26/06
The House Judiciary Committee approved a bill on Thursday that would ban service providers from blocking or slowing down access to competitors Web content, according to a Network World story.
The bill is called the Interent Freedom and Nondiscrimination Act. It will require that ISPs give content providers the same speed and quality of service as they do any other content.
According to other reports, AT&T, BellSouth, Time Warner and Verizon all oppose the bill. Supporters include Amazon.com, eBay, Google, Intel, Microsoft and Yahoo.
The ‘Net neutrality issue has debated much of late with the largest service providers saying legislation is not needed and others saying content providers, some of them Internet giants, need protection. For more Network World coverage on the topic click here.
