Riverbed rolls out Stingray products

New product family stems from Zeus, Aptimize acquisitions

Riverbed Technology is launching Stingray, a new product line of devices that brings together products the company acquired last summer when it bought Zeus Technology and Aptimize Limited.

The products are diverse, including one-ended WAN optimization, application delivery controllers, Web application firewalls and Web content optimization. Riverbed says the overriding theme of all its products is providing better application performance that boosts productivity and cuts the cost of IT infrastructure.

CLOUD: Cloud security: Mission impossible

The products in the new family are Stingray Traffic Manager, Stingray Web Application Firewall and Stingray Aptimizer.

Traffic Manager is an application delivery controller that comes as either software running on a hardware platform or as a virtual appliance that comes packaged with its own operating system. It is designed to perform global load balancing of traffic among servers, manage bandwidth, shape traffic and monitor service levels.

Upgrades to support larger deployments are available via license keys, and can support services that provide Traffic Manager features to applications deployed in public cloud environments. Stingray Web Application Firewall can be deployed by itself or as an add on to Stingray Traffic Manager.

Stingray Aptimizer software optimizes Web content for applications being delivered to devices that don't support two-way optimization. With an Aptimizer deployed on Web servers, content is formatted to reduce load times for pages and to use up less network bandwidth.
