How we tested Microsoft System Center: Data Protection Manager

We setup System Center: Data Protection Manager on a Gigabit Ethernet network consisting of Windows 2008 R2 and Windows 2003 R2 servers, as well as virtualized Windows 7 and Windows XP SP4 clients.

We ran a pilot instance of Microsoft Exchange 2010 and Microsoft SQL Server 2008 SP2 on the Windows 2008 licenses in a network with System Center: Service Manager, Ops Manager and Configuration Manager. Hardware consisted of Dell and HP multicore servers running VMware ESXi and XenServer 5.6 connected to a Dell/Compellent iSCSI 15TB SAN over a Gigabit Ethernet switched network managed by an Extreme switch.

We tested backing up and restoring each server and application variety, and tested client restoration and bare metal restore capabilities after defining roles, performing one registry patch, and updating each server type's configuration and application load to match requirements, where necessary.

Return to main test.
