Cloud storage just can't be put to bed with announcements from Index Engines, SunGard, eSilo, cloudTP and TwinStrata.

Index Engines, an eDiscovery company, introduced a new service that loads, accesses and indexes tapes for eDiscovery purposes. The Look & Learn service lets customers search and gather information about the content of their tape via cloud access to the Index Engines product. The service starts at $50 per tape. The service includes full extraction of tape content and is based on queries set by the user.

A new company called Cloud Technology Partners launched last week. CloudTP is setting forth to offer consulting to companies intending to implement cloud computing. CloudTP was founded by Cambridge Technology Partners, a systems integrator of mainframe and client-server systems. CloudTP argues that there is room for cloud consulting services as many customers are confused as to how all the cloud pieces fit together. The company will provide solutions for planning and migration of business processes, applications and data to private, hybrid or public clouds.

SunGard Availability Services on Wednesday announced its entry in the cloud storage space with the introduction of Enterprise Cloud Services, built on Vblock technology from VMware, Cisco and EMC. The service provides compute, network, storage and security services. SunGard has a wide range of managed hosting storage and data recovery services that include multi-tenancy and provide private cloud solutions. The company backs its services with service-level agreements. SunGard is also offering readiness and migration assessments for customers evaluating their migration of processes to the cloud.

ESilo on Tuesday announced SiloSphere, a cloud-based backup and recovery software package for midrange businesses. Using data reduplication technology and online backup and archive, SiloSphere is a fault-tolerant mesh of data points that are distributed across the enterprise. SiloSphere manages these data points from a centralized management interface. SiloSphere rehydrates data on the restore target, thus minimizing the amount of data transferred.

And, finally, TwinStrata and PEER1 Hosting announced that they will be partnering to deliver TwinStrata's cloud storage capabilities. TwinStrata's CloudArray enables cloud storage over iSCSI and provides dynamic caching. PEER1 Hosting operates 17 data centers, 21 points-of-presence and 10 collocation facilities and supports more than 10,000 customers.
