HP completes 3PAR integration, announces new products

Western Digital acquires Hitachi GST

HP last week announced that it has completed the integration of 3PAR's Utility Storage into the company's HPConverge Infrastructure family. The integration will allow customers to ease their transition to cloud computing.

HP 3PAR Utility Storage can now be managed as part of HP's CloudSystem, a system that allows clients to build hybrid, private and public clouds.

The company also announced that the HPX9300 Network Storage Gateway from IBRIX now works with 3PAR Storage Systems to allow tiering and data migration capabilities of the IBRIX built system.

HP also announced the HP P4800 G2 SAN, which uses the HP BladeSystem c7000 enclosure, This direct-attached storage system runs the SAN/I 9.0 software and adds support for VMware's vStorage APIs for VAAI.

HP's integration of 3PAR is one of the fastest acquisitions to take place.

In another spin on the disk drive industry, Hitachi GST was acquired on Monday by Western Digital for a proposed $4.3 billion. This is indeed an interesting buy from the No. 2 and 3 disk drive manufacturers - in 2003, IBM sold its disk drive business to Hitachi GST. The acquisition of Hitachi GST will cost Western Digital $3.5 billion in cash and 25 million common shares worth $750 million.
