Windows 8 test drive crash

Three attempts to install it, none successful.

I’m still wondering about how well Windows 8 touchscreen features work and  how easy it is to navigate using the Metro user interface and a host of other questions I had about the new operating sytem.

That’s because the thing won’t install on my computer.

TEST YOURSELF: Windows 8 Quiz

BACKGROUND: Windows 8 offers no management for ARM devices

I’ve downloaded the software successfully three times to a brand new HP TouchSmart 520 all-in-one PC, watched it run through checks and install itself and then bail out at the last minute.

Microsoft made much of how easy it would  be to install, and it actually woul  be if as it was installing it didn’t pop up this warning: “Windows installation was not successful. Your previous version of Windows is being reinstalled.”

Then it does that and pops up this message: “We're not sure what happened, but we couldn’t finish installing Windows 8 Consumer Preview. We’ve set your PC back to the way it was right before you started.”

It takes more than an hour to get from downloading Windows 8 to the point where it’s restored the PC to its original state, so it’s after three cycles of this I stopped trying.

I doubt it’s the hardware since it’s got a Windows 7 sticker on it  and exceeds all Microsoft requirements for Windows 8 hardware.

I’d still like to give it a try, so if anyone has any suggestions, please pass them along. Thanks.
