Road sign spelling mistake has drivers swerving

There really is no EPHARTA, PA., and it seems like you might not want to go there even if there was

There really is no EPHARTA, PA., but you would think there was, for now at least.  That's because the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation put up a road sign last week for EPHRATA, PA that had the major typo.

The transportation department said the error was made in its sign shop and obviously no one caught it. Still they will assuredly notice the $800 to $1,200 it will cost to fix it - sometime in the next two weeks.

Ephrata Mayor Ralph Mowen told LancasterOnline.com said he was unaware of the misspelled sign, but he didn't appreciate the mistake. "I think it's pretty poor," he said. "It's not like we're a new town in the state. We've been here for 200 years."

"I'm sure it will get a few laughs for a little while, but we will catch some grief for it, too," PennDOT spokesman Mike Crochunis said.  The silly mistake is a hot topic on social media sites like Facebook.

Misspelled highway signs are certainly not the purview of Pennsylvania.  You can find more here, here and here.
