It’s SQL Boot Camp time…again!

SQL Server 2012 Certification is as challenging as ever - you may need help...

Many people play “wait-and-see” with Microsoft new releases. Cynics say they’ll wait for the first service pack before taking a look. Others wait for their vendors to force the upgrade card. Well, Microsoft SQL Server 2012 was released April 1st 2012 (really!) and Service Pack 1 was released Nov 7th 2012. Now there are no excuses. It’s time to look at SQL Server 2012 certification. And that means Boot Camp time again!

To get through certification on your own is fine but it takes a great deal of time and energy. Practicing with the new product features, studying all the options and running through numerous practice tests takes time; time we don’t have away from our normal day job(s). In my experience, it may take 6 months or longer with procrastination (aka production/project/family issues). Of course, ideally, our company is already using the latest release with all the new features and we can just walk into the exam center and hey presto! Microsoft Certified! Get real.

Microsoft also likes to re-invent certification at each release so some of the learning curve may be just to understand the new certification paths available. I wrote a blog entry on the subject. To Microsoft’s credit, it is all documented on their Learning web site. But we still have to do the work. There must be a better way.

How about if we lock you in a room for 12 hours a day for 9 days, give you all the recommended training with hands-on labs, feed you with practice tests and give you access to 24x7 labs, e-books and online chat with mentors? You get the exam vouchers thrown in and a free retake voucher should you need it. The specialized expert instructor uses the “Power Hour” sessions to drill home what’s important for the exams. After all, we can’t learn absolutely everything in 9 days; we need to focus on the skills being measured. Well, that’s what we call the MCSA: SQL Server 2012 Boot Camp!

It is even available now in the Virtual Classroom so you don’t have to leave your home/office at all. All you need is internet access. Just remember to lock the door yourself, stay focused and before you know it you’ll be Microsoft Certified. For real.
