Cisco's OK with RIM's tablet

Says it will stoke market, but not run video as well as Cius

Cisco's ok with RIM's new tablet. At least, that's what this story from colleague Tim Greene conveys.

Cisco expects the new competitor to its Cius tablet to do well in the market, which would be fine with Cisco because it might stoke demand for its WebEx and Unified Communications offerings, Greene reports.  RIM's PlayBook will run Cisco WebEx and Unified Communications Manager applications quite adequately, according to Cisco.

Where Cisco will come out ahead of PlayBook is in video integration and experience. Because of Cisco's proprietary protocols, Cius will achieve greater video richness and tighter integration with Unified Communications Manager, Greene reports.

Cisco also believes the latest entry into the tablet arena - Avaya's Flare debuted this month, joining Cius, Apple iPad, and offerings from HP and Samsung - adds credibility to the market.
