Cisco offers Managed Security Services

A quick look at Cisco Managed Security Services

Not many folks know that Cisco has been in the managed security services business for a few years now. It is certainly not something that Cisco markets aggressively that’s for sure. The service is called Remote Management Services (RMS) for Security. The RMS-sec service offers both security event monitoring and security device management. They can also do a co-managed management of your security infrastructure. This means that you do not loose control, or get locked out, of your own devices but rather augment management with a Cisco provided day two, 24/7/365 day, monitoring, management and resolution of threats for your network security architecture. Kind of like making them an extension of your IT staff in a way. RMS-sec can be used to monitor just about all of your Cisco security gear and several third-party security products as well. Below is a graphic showing high-level support.

The RMS-sec service incorporates SLAs and a ITIL-based methodology and process to the madness of event monitoring and incident response. They also have a pretty slick security portal for you to view your security health, etc.

To make the management of devices more efficient a management appliance may be deployed on the customer’s premises to aggregate, correlate, compress, and forward security event data back to the Cisco service. In addition, a Cisco VPN termination router will be deployed on the customer’s premises to facilitate management and monitoring network connectivity. This also means that RMS-sec does not use an agent based collection service. The secret sauce to Cisco's offering is its event correlation that is powered by Cisco's Secuity Intelligence Operations center. It scrubs the raw events down to a manageable and actionable level. Here are some of the other call-outs for the RMS-sec service: - Co-Managed Out-Tasking Security Service - augment customer Security Staff - High availability security - Keeps you current with Threat Landscape - Consistent and Faster Remediation's - Proactively open and manage Cisco TAC cases For more information on the RMS-sec service see here http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6192/serv_category_home.html#~sec For a comprehensive look at what is supported with this service and how to order it http://www.cisco.com/en/US/services/ps6192/cisco_remote_management_monitoring_services_security.pdf
