Wiring closet winners and losers

Management software vendor SolarWinds held a contest to find the cleanest, most catastrophic and most creative wiring closets.

IT management software vendor SolarWinds recently held a photo contest to find the cleanest, most catastrophic and most creative wiring closets. While not the first nor the last to sponsor such a contest (Cisco is in the middle of its crazy cabling contest, Black Box just wrapped up its cable & cabinet makeover contest and management vendor Spiceworks did one a few years ago), it's always hard to resist looking at other people's messes. The tidy and creative ones just might make you feel bad about your own situation, but maybe you could use the inspiration. SolarWinds held the contest on its Facebook page in conjunction with the announcement of software that remotely discovers users and devices connected to Ethernet switch ports, along with device and port configuration information. About 75 IT admins submitted their photos. The company closed the contest today and announced the winners, who won a T-shirt and selection of stickers and buttons from SolarWinds - and bragging rights. Here's the winner of the "Cleanest Closet":
