Cisco's growth troubles make national news

CNBC report: Cisco is rumored to be target of from assault from activist investor

The following report from CNBC raises the question of whether Cisco will soon be the target of an activist investor. While the journalist in this video says that he is not hearing anything substantial from the people he talked to, we at Network World found evidence that at least one law firm is working on a lawsuit (look for more on that from Network World's Jim Duffy).

Whether Cisco will have to fend off some kind of hostile takeover or not, some investors are clearly pushing for action. The CNBC report points out, "Cisco is trading at 52 week lows What's wrong with Cisco? Margins. Investors used to trusting Cisco CEO John Chambers have doubts."

Cisco could be heading for a restructuring which may include changing Chamber's leadership-by-committee approach and perhaps shedding business units. Network World's Jim Duffy has been covering Cisco's rough few quarters -- and the deeper problems it signifies -- for months.
