UC management solution demand grows

NetScout Systems announced it is buying privately held Psytechnics to increase its portfolio of solutions for managing IP-based voice and video over wired and wireless networks. NetScout’s acquisition demonstrates growth in demand for unified communications management solutions to enable engineers and support staff to proactively identify and rectify issues related to performance and availability.

Our research shows VOIP troubleshooting taking typically 1-3x longer than TDM, the lack of sufficient management tools adds to implementation cost and decreases user satisfaction. And an investment in management can pay off in lower operational costs: IT organizations that bought products to manage their UC implementations spent approximately $624 per user in the first two years, versus $1,194 for those who didn’t buy any management tools.

Bottom line: Incorporate a detailed management strategy in your UC plans—including products that manage end-to-end performance over converged networks.
