Steve Jobs biography climbing the charts ... despite not existing

Updated: Pre-orders have 'iSteve: The Book of Jobs' selling briskly

Current Job Listings

At this moment, the No. 11 top-selling book on is iSteve: The Book of Jobs, which will not be available to be read by anyone - even those who have already bought it -- for another 274 days.

Yes, it's listed right there between the new ESPN tell-all at No. 10 and Tina Fey's Bossypants at No. 12, despite carrying a release date of March 6, 2012. (And it has climbed one spot since I started writing this post.)

Moreover, 60 online shoppers have told Amazon that they "like" the book, which - did I mention this already? - will not be released for another nine full months.

Surprisingly, there are no reader reviews.

Why this is happening is anyone's guess, so I will speculate that the members of the can't-wait crowd want to be on Amazon's "release-date delivery" list and are unwilling to take any chances that the list will become too unwieldy for Amazon and the book's publisher, Simon & Schuster, thus forcing dawdlers to brave the masses sure to be overrunning old-fashioned bookstores 274 days from now.

An authorized biography being written by Walter Isaacson, the not-quite-impending arrival of iSteve was first announced by Simon & Schuster back in April.

While the book will not be seen for some time - a very long some time - Jobs himself is scheduled to appear on stage in about a half-hour at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco.

(Finally, it should be noted that someone at The Huffington Post smells shenanigans because the book cover art as seen on Amazon is uninspiring. That the Amazon listing is some kind of joke or stunt seems unlikely, but I want my backside protected just in case.)

(Update: Shortly before 4 p.m. and it's up to No. 9.)
