Steve Jobs email - upcoming iOS update to address sluggish iPhone 3G performance

Steve Jobs recently emailed an iPhone 3G owner and reassured him that Apple was working on an iOS update to help alleviate sluggish performance on iPhone 3G devices running iOS 4

iOS 4 delivered a number of long anticipated features to the iPhone, and while iPod Touch, iPhone 3GS, and iPhone 4 users all seem to be enjoying the OS update, a sizeable number of iPhone 3G owners have been complaining of subpar system performance since upgrading. Indeed, YouTube is replete with videos showcasing how iOS 4 can sometimes bring iPhone 3G's to a crawl.

In light of that, an iPhone 3G user recently emailed Apple CEO Steve Jobs to express concern over sluggish iPhone performance. His email reads:

I've waited patiently through 4.0.1 and 4.0.2, looking for a fix that will make my phone work again. I've read the forums that advise me to jailbreak my phone or use some other method so I can downgrade back to a version of iPhone 3, however I'm not prepared to use a method that is not supported by Apple.

Jobs, who has single handedly created an Internet meme (sort of) with his unbelievably short email replies, not surprisingly was as terse as ever.

Software update coming soon. Sent from my iPhone

And so there you have it, straight from the horse's mouth. Thus far, developers testing iOS 4.1 beta have indeed noted improved performance on iPhone 3G devices.
