A peek inside Cisco's IT organization

Forbes has interviewed Cisco CIO Rebecca Jacoby about how Cisco's push into Web 2.0 applications is affecting the company's IT infrastructure. Among other things, she says her budget has increased year over year, virtualization has taken hold in a huge way (70% of new apps are virtualized) and telepresence has cut travel costs by 20%.

Overall, Cisco is making its IT infrastructure more flexible to support a more collaborative and mobile workforce, she says. Her biggest challenge? "Can we move fast enough? IT needs to do this differently, in a participative fashion. So the first big challenge was changing the IT culture so we're not trying to just govern everything. We also have to scale the architecture as we go."
