The IP Communications Industry Unites: VoIP Is Alive

The conference events concluded Wednesday afternoon at Internet Telephony EXPO (ITEXPO) East 2009 in Miami Beach, FL. With a very high attendee and exhibitor count, it is clear that VoIP, convergence, and UC technologies are at the forefront of interest and innovation. Even in these difficult economic times, people are extremely excited about these revolutionary technologies. Whether organizations invest in ROI-laden open source solutions, or even niche-market products, there is something for everyone. Strengths of the VAR, integration channels: No communications solution, regardless of vendor, technology, or deployment is sound without a strong distribution channel through competent Value Added Resellers. IT purchasers and decision makers should consider the true "value" present in their resellers and solution providers. Integration is no longer a feature, but a requirement. Bad integration can turn the best solution into an under performing disaster. Community: ITEXPO is a wonderful example of the strong industry community that exists within the IP communications market. Highly-competing developers, integrators, and VARs maximize on the opportunity to discuss the state of the industry, exciting new technological developments, and tools for delivering better and more innovative customer solutions. In the next few weeks, and even months, I will be discussing and featuring some of the outstanding companies and solutions that I witnessed while at the ITEXPO event. Innovation is at the forefront, and I am truly excited to be covering the industry in such revolutionary times. As I mentioned in a presentation at the conference, (given the current economic state), this is the time for pure innovation and revolutionary communications solutions. Next on Considering Convergence: On Friday, I'll discuss the recent news of Avaya appointing Anthony Bartolo as thew new leader of its Appoints Anthony Bartolo as New Leader of its Small and Medium Enterprise Division. I had the recent opportunity to talk with Anthony about the future of the SMB market.
