Guitar Hero comes to the Android G1

Now that the Android Market is sporting for-pay applications, users of the Android-based G1 can now download a mobile version of Guitar Hero World Tour and rock out via the phone's touchscreen. While Guitar Hero has been available on Java-based phones for a while, this is a first for the Android phone--and perhaps a good sign that more full-featured apps are heading to the Android Market now that developers can actually hope to make money there.

According to the Guitar Hero World Tour Mobile site, G1 users simply text GHWT to 46966 to access the app. The game offers 15 new tracks, plus a bonus song each month, and it lets users play both drums and guitar. The mobile version also supports real-time head-to-head multiplayer competition, game-time chat, leaderboards, and the ability to build your own rock star avatar via guitarheromobile.com.

When the G1 first came out, many derided its enterprise capabilities but few could deny that the phone was first and foremost a great gaming tool. Until now, many of the Android Market's free apps were simple games like Battleship and Concentration. Now, rumor has it that mobile versions of Who Wants to be a Millionaire and Monopoly are also on the way. Let the Google Android games begin!
