Blogger sells press on Google Street View hoax

As I've mentioned before, falling for this kind of, uh, thing is a regular workplace worry of mine.

Here we have a blogger who set about intentionally fooling the Sun newspaper of London into believing a tale of woman catching her hubby straying via an image on Google Maps Street View. It wasn't much of an image or a particularly clever ruse, but neither seems necessary to get your garden-variety tabloid to bite.

Bite the Sun did.

As, too, did CNET, once the Sun had placed its weighty imprimatur upon the non-story.

Same for this German news portal, although my grasp of German does not allow me to vouch for that fact.

You'll notice that I'm not really laughing at anybody here. It's not because I don't see the humor.
