Test Cisco NetFlow collectors and exporters with a free tool kit called Flowalyzer

Plixer International released today a free NetFlow & sFlow tool kit called Flowalyzer for testing NetFlow collectors and exporters.

Today I added a new NetFlow and sFlow tool to my extensive collection of free Cisco tools. "Flowalyzer is a free NetFlow & sFlow tool kit for testing NetFlow collectors and exporters used to troubleshoot hardware from vendors like Cisco and Enterasys, as well as Plixer's Cisco NetFlow collector software, to assure that whichever flow technology deployed is configured properly on both ends," said Plixer International cofounder and Chief Technology Officer - Marc Bilodeau. Bilodeau added, "Flowalyzer came about out of necessity during the development process of Scrutinizer v7." (Readers may recall that Scrutinizer v7 was featured last week in my Q & A blog about exporting NetFlow from the Cisco ASA Firewall). Flowalyzer features include:

Flowalyzer NetFlow & sFlow Listener

Listen for NetFlow on multiple ports.
Display the IP address and DNS name.
Determine which flow sending devices are sending the highest volume.
Display packet count, version of NetFlow and UDP port flows are coming in on.

Flowalyzer NetFlow Generator

Send NetFlow in either version 5 or version 9 format.
Generate NetFlow data to determine if the destination collector is accepting flows.
Determine if the destination collector is dropping NetFlow data by comparing the flows sent to the what is received on the other end.

Flowalyzer NetFlow & sFlow Configurator

Supports SNMP v1, v2 and v3.
Uses SNMP to make OID sets.
Configure Cisco routers or Enterasys switches for exporting NetFlow data.

Flowalyzer NetFlow & sFlow Communicator

Run a ping or traceroute to any host.
Ping via ICMP, UDP or TCP protocols.
Communication responses are readable in a clear response display.
