Vizioncore unveils trio of freeware at VMworld

Virtualization data protection and management product maker Vizioncore releases free versions of its commercial software at VMworld.

Vendors flooded the VMworld show floor this week with their latest tools that add more management, security and control in a virtual environment. For its part, Vizioncore took the opportunity to unveil three new versions of its technology that the vendor will offer to potential customers for free. The vendor revamped three of its commercial applications and will offer them as freeware, enabling IT managers to try the technology before having to commit budget dollars. The free tools are part of a larger initiative at Vizioncore to accelerate virtualization adoption. The Virtualization EcoShell Initiative (VESI), launched earlier this year, focuses on script-based virtual machine administration to provide productivity solutions to virtual systems managers. To start, Vizioncore broke out vControl's multi-hypervisor management capability and offered it as the no-cost application vControl Multi-Hypervisor Management. The freeware version allows administrators to leverage workflows for task-based administration of virtual machines and could help virtual systems managers add more management consistency to their operations. The free application can be downloaded here.Next up, Vizioncore's vOptimizer Pro. The software was rejiggered and offered as the free vOptimizer WasteFinder. The software can spot unused storage space and help administrators reclaim wasted storage capacity. It can also be put to work spotting problems such as virtual machines that are not 64K aligned, which the vendor says leads to poor I/O performance. This free application is available for download here. And rounding out Vizioncore's VMworld releases is vConverter SC. The software, now available free, helps administrators perform rapid simultaneous conversions of single or multiple servers "without disruption to the source system," according to a Vizioncore press release.
