Bluesocket: Best overall product

Editor's note: This is a summary of our testing of this product, for a full rundown of how it fared in our testing across 10 UTM categories, please see our full coverage.

Bluesocket's BlueSecure system is a good choice for enterprises looking to keep a lid on latency and jitter – both concerns with real-time voice and video. The controller-based Bluesocket system held up traffic for less time than other vendors in our pure 802.11n tests and also in some of our mixed-mode tests. And it also supported more concurrent phone calls than any other system tested in our Wi-Mix tests (though note the caveat about video traffic in the main article). While Bluesocket access points weren't the fastest in our tests, they turned in decent performance across the board.

Bluesocket's heritage is as a WLAN security company shows in the stateful firewall and intrusion detection/prevention features in its controller. Both offered rich feature sets for managing traffic at the wireless/wired juncture. Bluesocket's access points were also among the greenest we tested; even in pure 802.11n mode, they won't require any upgrade in 802.3af power-over-Ethernet (PoE) infrastructure.

Score: 4.05 out of 5
