Chelsio strikes two deals for adapters

* Chelsio partners with DSG Storage, Newisys

In the past week Chelsio Communications has announced two deals for its getting its TCP/IP Offload Engine into other products.

The company announced an OEM relationship with start-up DSG Storage, where DSG will embed Chelsio's quad-port Gigabit Ethernet and 10 Gigabit Ethernet TOE/iSCSI acceleration adapters - the T204 and T210, respectively - in upcoming high-performance storage systems. These products will begin shipping in the second quarter of this year.

Chelsio says the T204 has been measured to perform more than 350,000 I/O operations per second and reach 3.6Gbps throughput when used with the Chelsio iSCSI target stack running in RAMdisk mode and Microsoft initiators. The T210 can hit 600K I/O operations per second and 6.5Gbps, the company says.

DSG’s high-performance iSCSI storage devices are intended for small and midsized businesses. The company says its mission is to deliver simple, fast storage with simple pricing. The Chelsio adapters help to accelerate storage transfers into and out of those devices over Ethernet.

Newisys, a Sanmina-SCI company, chose Chelsio as a recommended supplier of 10 Gigabit Ethernet adapters, particularly based on the performance of the T210, the companies said. Newisys offers enterprise-class servers for data centers. The servers are used for high-performance computing and clustering.

The company’s focus in choosing Chelsio technology is high throughput and low latency.

Chelsio’s equipment is intended for those who really need high performance. The company says it has 100 customers using its products in applications that include server networking, high-performance cluster computing, digital media storage, video editing and post-production, network monitoring and storage networking.
