How to convert a Cisco router from normal execution mode to ROMMON mode

Cisco How-To Tutorials
A Cisco router can be configured to accept a break sequence to enter ROM Monitor (ROMmon) during normal operation. If the router boots to normal execution mode and ignores the break sequence, issue the config-register 0x2012 command from configuration mode. Then reload the router. The new config register value will enable you to send the break signal from the normal router execution mode. This allows you to go ROMMON mode directly from the normal execution mode.
