Tell Us What You Think of Riverbed’s Steelhead

While we were at spring Interop we heard a consistent theme from application delivery vendors that went something like this: "Other vendors say things about our products that aren't true to make them look better. Customers love our products and they can tell you the truth."  So starting now and continuing every Wednesday for the coming weeks, we want to hear the voices of each major ADS vendor's customers - one vendor at a time.  Today we start with Riverbed's Steelhead product--only because Riverbed is the largest pure-play WAN optimization vendor.

Here is an overview to the Steelhead solution for those not familiar with it.  Riverbed calls what the Steelhead does Wide Area Data Services (WDS).  Using our taxonomy this is a Distributed (a.k.a. dual-ended) ADS solution.  Riverbed has a range of product configurations from large data center appliances supporting 310 Mbps outbound (LAN-to-WAN) traffic, down to small office devices and even laptop software for mobile workers to experience WDS benefits when connecting to the data center.  Riverbed pioneered dictionary compression and sophisticated application turn reduction for many applications.

If you have deployed Riverbed Steelhead appliances tell us what you think.  Did they live up to your expectations? What were your impressions?  A simple "I like it", "I have mixed feelings", or "I hate it" response is fine--but if you have insight to share with the community, then talk all you want. You can post a reply to this blog using your name or anonymously.

If you are using another vendor's product, your turn will come in a future blog.
