Cisco confirms Web site outage

I've been trying to access the site for the past hour [[UPDATE: I've been told the site has been down for the past 2 hours]] but all I get is the progress bar and then I get a Google page with "" as the search results. I'm in California, and my colleague in the East Coast has been unable to access as well.

What's going on?

A call to Cisco PR has gone straight to voicemail. The only area of that seems to be up is its Platform blog. Let's see if the moderator of that can answer the question I just sent asking why the networking giant's Web site is down.

This from Buzzblog's Paul McNamara:

An outage of this length is highly unusual for, as according to Web monitoring company Pingdom, the site has averaged only 21 minutes of down time per month over the past year.
