Cisco confirms Web site outage

I've been trying to access the Cisco.com site for the past hour [[UPDATE: I've been told the site has been down for the past 2 hours]] but all I get is the progress bar and then I get a Google page with "cisco.com" as the search results. I'm in California, and my colleague in the East Coast has been unable to access Cisco.com as well.

What's going on?

A call to Cisco PR has gone straight to voicemail. The only area of Cisco.com that seems to be up is its Platform blog. Let's see if the moderator of that can answer the question I just sent asking why the networking giant's Web site is down.

This from Buzzblog's Paul McNamara:

An outage of this length is highly unusual for cisco.com, as according to Web monitoring company Pingdom, the site has averaged only 21 minutes of down time per month over the past year.

We'll keep you posted on this development.

12:58PM PT UPDATE: Cisco has posted this notice on its Platform blog:

Cisco.com Outage

Cisco is experiencing some facility issues that are impacting services to Cisco.com. We have identified the cause of the issue and are working to quickly restore services. We will update this blog with new information as the situation warrants.
