Cisco has a big UCS launch coming

Could include quietly introduced 6324 Fabric Interconnect

On Sept. 4, Cisco will launch “the most significant portfolio expansion” of its Unified Computing System (UCS) since the data center/cloud platform debuted in 2009. One of the things we’re expecting is the quietly announced 6324 Fabric Interconnect for a smaller scale “mini UCS” that curiously lacks connectivity to Cisco’s latest Application Centric Infrastructure fabric innovation.

Here’s a link to register for the event.

Following the launch, Cisco will host a “Tech Talk” webcast/conference call to discuss the portfolio expansion, led by Paul Perez, Cisco vice president and general manager, Computing Systems.

The UCS expansion launch follows an arrangement Cisco reached with SimpliVity this week to bundle UCS rack mount servers with SimpliVity’s OmniStack Integrated Solution compute/storage/networking/virtualization “hyper-converged” infrastructure. The Cisco/SimpliVity combination will compete with VMware’s EVO:RAIL system, which also debuted this week.
