Sleek iPhone 7 designs with improved cameras and maximized screens are being dreamed up by designers around the world

The 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus have given Apple smartphone fans much of what they wanted: bigger screens, a better camera and NFC wireless for payments and other apps. So what’s left for the iPhone 6S, 6S Plus, iPhone 7 or whatever comes next?

Apple surely won’t discuss iPhone 7 features for now and it's way too early to be talking about iPhone 7 release dates or prices. But plenty of enthusiasts have ideas about the next Apple smartphone, including the forever-rumored sapphire crystal display that is way more durable than the current glass ones, an obligatory faster A9 processor and a newfangled system that cushions falling iPhones on their way to the ground.

There are high hopes as well for a camera that blows by the current 8mp mark and approaches DSLR quality, a 3D- and virtual reality-infused user interface and tight integration with Apple Watch. Rumors have circulated, too, that iPhones of as-soon-as-2015 could be waterproof and solar-powered.

Beyond the ideas floated by pundits and rumor-mongers (hey, don’t look at me) are the dazzling concept designs floated by artists around the world (we’ll try to add more images to this post once we get permission from the artists). We don’t have nearly the supply of iPhone 7 concepts as we did for iPhone 6 yet, but trust me, they’re coming.

Subtle changes envisioned by prolific designer Martin Hajek involve essentially eliminating the edges around the front of the phone so that the screen size stays the same but the overall phone size shrinks (one change would involve moving the speaker to the top of the phone).

Another idea from Hajek (@deplaatjesmaker ) would be to make an edge-to-edge screen with holes in it for the home button and speaker/front-facing camera.

Jan-Willem Reusink also has a concept (as seen on Flickr) for a streamlined iPhone 7, more angular and less rounded than recent iPhone models.

Designer Steel Drake from Kyrgyzstan puts forth an industrial design on the Behance site featuring shimmering glass and steel on the sides.

Also on the Behance site, Russia’s Grisha Serov has designed a slick futuristic iPhone with the home button/Touch ID at the top, a camera that doesn’t pop out and lots of shiny steel.

A designer named Eric from Germany, who goes by Xerix93 on the Deviantart website, has created an iPhone 7 concept featuring a form closer to Version 5S than 6, but that also runs iOS 9. This design brings a 4.7-inch Retina HD display, an aluminum body and iOS 9 app icons that are more muted than those from iOS 8.

Designer Yasser Farahi from The Netherlands has released a video featuring his iPhone 7 concept, a slender device that comes with a wireless charging platform.
