No changes for Google Cloud in Alphabet shakeup

Google Cloud gets to continue to take on Amazon as a division of Google

Google announced some big changes this week with the creation of a new parent company named Alphabet, which will oversee the search giant and other more exploratory businesses.

Mum throughout the flurry of announcements was what the shakeup will mean for Google’s Cloud Platform. It turns out, not much. The company confirmed today that

Google Cloud Platform will remain in its current structure within Google. Other Google products like Chrome, Android, Maps and Mail are staying within Google too. Alphabet will control other businesses like the company’s venture and capital investment teams and its X Labs as separate business units.

But for its Cloud Platform, life goes on, relatively unchanged.
