MasterCard International will be deploying public-key infrastructure technology from Baltimore Technologies for the card-processor association’s SecureCode cardholder authentication.

Bruce Rutherford, vice president of e-business and emerging technologies at MasterCard International, said the Baltimore UniCERT software would be used for security in various ways.

These include PKI in smart cards, the ‘3D Secure’ program for Web-based authentication between the merchant’s Web sites and the card issuer using a Web plug-in.

Separately, Visa International and the Bank of China in Hong Kong will start using a two-way messaging technology from Mobileway for secure authentication of cardholders making transactions on mobile phones.
