Acme Packet has announced new offers intended to accelerate Microsoft Lync deployments for customers who want to take advantage of Lync’s enterprise voice capabilities. The offers target customers who need combined session border control (SBC), session management, and trunk-side application server functions.
Acme Packet’s latest package features a pilot deployment option based on virtual machine technology, designed to enable rapid and cost-effective testing that typically precedes upgrades to medium and large-scale production configurations.

The company’s offer includes its Net-Net Enterprise Session Director, which protects and controls real-time communications between the enterprise and service provider SIP trunk. The solutions’ session management functions solve some of the interoperability problems common in multi-vendor networks. The packaged solution also features:
• Optimized dial plan management and routing using Microsoft Active Directory
• Load balancing to optimize utilization across multiple Lync mediation servers and trunks
• Lync media bypass support and hardware-based media processing to offload Lync servers
Commenting in a statement, Laura Howard, senior director of Microsoft, said, “Acme Packet has played an important role in accelerating the deployment of Microsoft Lync by solving interoperability challenges with SIP trunk services. [The company’s] new, vendor-neutral solutions provide large enterprises with a complete solution that accelerates piloting and deployment of feature-rich Lync enterprise voice and simplifies migration from legacy telephony environments.”
