In today’s news, 8×8 has a new version of its Virtual Office mobile PBX solution — now offering compatibility with smartphones and tablets. The company made the announcement during ITEXPO Austin 2012, where its latest features were showcased.
With Virtual Office Mobile 4.0, mobile users can access the same voice, video and PBX features available on 8×8’s cloud-based Virtual Office suite. Available immediately for iOS, the interface is designed to take full advantage of the iPhone‘s and iPad’s Retina display. 8×8 plans to offer interoperability with Android devices in the fourth quarter of 2012.

According to 8×8, with the features provided by Virtual Office Mobile 4.0, business users can:
• Conduct voice and video calls over 3G, 4G and Wi-Fi, including free international calling from Wi-Fi hotspots.
• Enjoy better call quality over Wi-Fi and 3G/4G/LTE, even under low-bandwidth connections. Its new compression technology requires half the bandwidth of the previous version while maintaining audio quality.
• Access PBX features such as call transfer, conference bridging and directories. Calls can also be recorded on demand.
• See the status of co-workers and send instant messages.
• Display business voice mails, also allowing users to listen to and delete messages.
• Have outbound calls appear with the caller ID of their office numbers to protect the privacy of their mobile numbers and minimize the need for multiple numbers and mailboxes.
