Product news from ShoreTel, Siemens Enterprise Communications; collaboration award for Vidyo
Today we highlight announcements coming out of the Interop 2011 conference that just concluded in Las Vegas. Included in today’s news review: two ShoreTel product enhancements, a new product line for Siemens Enterprise Communications, and another collaboration award for Vidyo.
In its first announcement, ShoreTel unveiled enhanced collaboration tools and its newly doubled system capacity in a new ShoreTel 12 release. The new features include improved collaboration with integrated audio conferencing, Web conferencing and IM incorporated into its core architecture; simplified deployment and management; doubled capacity now allowing up to 20,000 users to be supported under a single image; and Microsoft Outlook 2010 Integration; native Apple Macintosh user support; and extended UC features for mobile users. ShoreTel’s second announcement touted its latest Contact Center 7 release that introduces “Personal Agent Queues” along with strengthened administration capabilities featuring redesigned Web-based management, enhanced reporting and new diagnostic tools.

Siemens Enterprise Communications’ has introduced the OpenScape Session Border Controller (SBC) designed to address security and interoperability issues for SIP-based VoIP traffic. The new SBC is architected for SIP trunking termination from multiple service providers — intended to improve support for teleworkers and contact center home agents and to deliver secure connectivity to branch locations and hosted voice applications. Siemens Enterprise Communications will continue to offer SBC solutions from Acme Packet for large enterprise deployments and for organizations that have standardized on Acme Packet Session Border Controllers.
Finally, among the show’s award winners announced at Interop, Vidyo picked up the Best of Interop Award in the Collaboration category, for delivering video communications and collaboration on mobile devices via its recently announced VidyoMobile product. Vidyo’s Adaptive Video Layering architecture is designed to deliver high-definition 720p video with resolution up to VGA on smartphones and tablets.
