Toshiba America Information Systems’ Telecommunication Systems Division has unveiled a new business IP telephone system called IPedge. The system provides multiple unified communication applications on a single Linux-based server, including call processing, voicemail and unified messaging, native SIP line and SIP trunk support, mobility, survivability, centralized administration of all sites. Voicemail is also built into IPedge with no additional equipment needed.
Other add-on applications are available with additional servers including meet-me conferencing with Web collaboration, uMobility Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC) and Call Center solutions. The IPedge system is fully compatibility with Toshiba’s Strata CIX phone system according to the company, designed as a complementary product line to help Toshiba meet various market needs.

Commenting on the company’s new product, Brian Metherell, VP and general manager of Toshiba America Information Systems said in a statement, “IPedge goes beyond most competitors’ IP solutions by delivering more applications on a single server. [It] empowers SMB and enterprise users to communicate more effectively, be more cost effective, and have greater access to their customers, partners and each other.”
Among the benefits the company has identified with its architectural design: When IPedge servers are installed in separate locations, survivability is provided within or across the network to support business continuity. Since the solution is SIP based, users can choose from Toshiba IP phones and soft phones as well as third-party SIP endpoints. Toshiba digital telephones can be supported through a networked Strata CIX system, and analog telephones can be supported using a gateway.
System administration is provided with a browser-based, centralized administration tool, giving access to centralized installation and maintenance over the LAN/WAN from any location. Individual users can also manage their own telephones, including programming buttons and personalizing telephone functions
Available in three models, the IPedge EM supports up to 1,000 users per server while the IPedge EC supports up to 200 users per server. The IPedge EP model will be available in the future and support up to 40 users per server.
