New product adds service impact knowledge to existing resource management and analytics capabilities
As IT organizations approach a cloud computing model, many tend to be a bit skittish — not knowing how one change might affect the cloud infrastructure and services can be unnerving.
What they need, contends IT management company Zenoss, is a way to unify and automate impact and root cause analysis for IT services spanning private and public IT infrastructures. They get that with the newly available Zenoss Service Dynamics, a service impact management tool that the company says natively understands virtualization and cloud services and automatically adapts to changes in the underlying infrastructure that affect service delivery.
BACKGROUND: Open source management software gets enterprise-ready
Service Dynamics represents the latest evolution of the 5-year-old Zenoss, which started life as an open source network and server management company that then added value in a commercial version, Zenoss Enterprise. For example, Zenoss Enterprise included an integrated event management system and, as of the first quarter of this year, complete analytics and optimization — “basically business intelligence for IT,” says Tim Galligan, senior vice president of customer operations at Zenoss.
With this latest release, Zenoss now packages the service impact management, resource management and analytics capabilities in a single product that is viewable from a single pane of glass, Galligan says. Zenoss Service Dynamics is the new product branding, he adds.
“Service Dynamics lets organizations leverage the model and technology that we’ve developed around ‘policy-gate’ technology and relevance rankings to truly understand how downstream infrastructure events can impact the services being delivered,” Galligan says.
Key features of Zenoss Service Dynamics include dynamic impact analysis, automated root cause analysis, highly scalable event management, historical and predictive analytics and unified resource monitoring, the company says.
Zenoss Service Dynamics is available for an annual subscription fee. Zenoss Enterprise customers will get a version upgrade that will layer in the service impact management capabilities.
