Polycom and Microsoft have been building on their strategic partnership, as Polycom announced that the Polycom CX7000 Unified Collaboration System becomes the first room video telepresence solution custom-built for full integration with Microsoft Lync. The solution is built to bring the Lync desktop into the conference room to enhance business collaboration and productivity features for room telepresence.
Commenting in a statement on the latest development, Andrew Miller, Polycom president and CEO said, “The new Polycom CX7000 room telepresence solution, custom-built to integrate with Microsoft Lync, takes the seamless, highly intuitive experience to a new level by enabling customers to connect and collaborate how, when, and where they want. Expect more of the same as Polycom continues to work with Microsoft to accelerate UC adoption.”

Polycom was recently named the 2011 Microsoft UC Innovation Partner of the Year and will be officially honored during the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference Vision keynote, as well as the Award Winners Executive Luncheon.
In other news, we checked in recently with Snom — a SIP-based VoIP supplier targeting the small and midsize business market. We spoke with Snom last fall when they had launched their software based Snom One IP-PBX and had a portfolio of SIP-compatible phones. The company has had a busy spring: So far in 2011 they have added a new DECT phone designed for VoIP, introduced a new hardware version of the Snom One IP-PBX, and advanced their solution’s compatibility with Microsoft OCS R2.
On the device side, the Snom 821 IP phone has achieve qualification with Microsoft Office Communications Server R2. The company milestone marks the first Snom phone qualified with an extended feature support for Microsoft OCS 2007 R2 with features like interoperable presence, contact lists and corporate directory search capabilities. The 821 joins Snom 300 as a member of Microsoft’s compatible device program for Lync.
Bundling the company’s IP-PBX software with pre-configured hardware, Snom has also introduced a “plug-and-play” appliance. The Snom One Yellow supports up to 20 extensions while the Snom One Blue up to 150 extensions. List pricing ranges from $2,500 to $4,900, depending on configurations.
