Largest storage array yet
Iomega, an EMC company, last week announced a new 12-bay NAS/SAN storage system, the px12-350r, which replaces the current ix12-300r storage system, New features include support for 3TB SATA drives for a 56TB capacity, support for solid state drives drives and 4GB RAM. The system, which uses the EMC LifeLine Linux-based operating system, can be configured as both a NAS and an iSCSI SAN. Features of the px12-350r include:
• Four 1GB Ethernet ports, configurable for failover or aggregation.
• Support for RAID 1, 10, 5 and 6 with hot spare and automatic rebuild.
• Certified for VMware vSphere 5, Citrix XenServer 5.6, and Windows Server 2003/2008/2008 R2.
• Embedded AXIS Video Hosting System (AVHS) provides support for up to 12 AXIS IP security cameras.
• Iomega Personal Cloud, allowing connection via the Internet to other Iomega network-connected devices. This allows off-site backups, collaboration and file sharing. According to Iomega there is no incremental cost for this and the data is always under the users’ control.
Current ix12-300r users can upgrade their systems with a software upgrade and additional RAM. There is no cost for the software upgrade.
According to Iomega the ix12-350r has already shipped to the channel and is available for purchase.
The introduction of the px12-350r provides a nearly-seamless transition between the Iomega SOHO and low-end products and EMC’s enterprise offerings. This gives EMC a great story to tell not only concerning migration to higher-end systems, but also the ability of the enterprise to support branch offices of any size.
