Today we return our focus to activity among competitive carriers, highlighting three recent announcements from EarthLink, Intelliverse and TelePacific. EarthLink plans to upgrade its network, Intelliverse has launched a new service delivery platform and TelePacific has acquired Tel West.

EarthLink plans to expand and enhance its network infrastructure. The upgrades include more network routes, new OC-192 10 Gigabit Ethernet fiber rings, additional high-speed access points for private Voice over IP network traffic, and bringing EarthLink’s enterprise class data centers on-net. EarthLink is also extending its EVDO wireless network, broadening its network reach to businesses with remote locations; the EVDO network also serves to offer a cost-effective back-up network solution.

Rolla P. Huff, EarthLink chairman and CEO, commented in a statement saying, “We are proactively enhancing our robust network to help our customers stay ahead of the technology curve, to take advantage of the increasing demands for bandwidth, and to be at the forefront with cloud-based managed services and IT security solutions.”

In other news, Intelliverse, a cloud-based hosted communications provider for enterprises, announced its ION (Intelliverse Open Network) service delivery platform. The architecture supports all of Intelliverse’s services, including Interactive Voice Response (IVR), Automated Call Distribution (ACD) and VoIP. ION’s singular platform is designed to provide a competitive advantage by allowing Intelliverse to offer customized solutions and combining elements of different services to its clients.

Kevin M. Moran, president and CEO of Intelliverse, said in a statement, “Because Intelliverse developed the platform, we have the agility and flexibility to customize applications without a custom price, offering enterprises the integrity they require of their communication services.”

And in other developments, TelePacific announced it has completed the acquisition of Tel West, headquartered in Austin, Texas. The move gives TelePacific a solid presence in Texas, adding 3,600 business accounts and a fiber network serving six metropolitan areas. The addition of Texas to TelePacific’s existing California and Nevada service footprint also positions the company to cover approximately 20% of domestic SMBs.

Tel West will continue to operate under its own name and existing leadership. Company plans call to integrate the respective networks and to add infrastructure support in Texas for TelePacific’s current portfolio including Ethernet over Copper (EoC), IP services and TelePacific’s SmartVoice SIP Trunking service.
