Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise recently introduced improved features on its multimedia communications platform targeting the SMB market with enhancements to the OmniPCX Office, Rich Communication Edition Server. These latest upgrades add to improvements made late last year that included support for fax by email along with the introduction of new DECT phones.

The new solution includes upgrades for customer management, additional features for unified communications services, home-working and mobility management, and new customer service features specifically designed for vertical markets such as hospitality.

DOLLARS AND CENTS: Alcatel-Lucent reports rising profit on falling revenue

Following the announcement, we spoke with Katerina Cerny, who is responsible for SMB solutions marketing at Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise. She noted that with the new My IC Mobile application, a user’s iPhone can become an extension of the desk phone connecting to the corporate directory, creating “one number” service that reaches called parties. The mobile app can access call logs and voicemail, and use other corporate unified communications services. Support for Android-based mobile devices is set for release in Q2 2012.

Cerny pointed to improved SIP-supported interoperability features: adding SIP trunking enhancements and support for integrated contact center capabilities. More SIP feature enhancements are set for release in Q2 2012. Commenting in a statement, Cerny said, “Mobility is a way of life but isn’t always a reality in our business lives. Alcatel-Lucent is helping SMBs bridge the two realities to deliver the same user experience whatever the device in a business environment.”

According to the company, some 16 million SMB users already count on Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise for their business communications.
