Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise is evolving its businesses communications solutions by expanding and extending the OpenTouch Suite capabilities and applications — including better native conferencing capabilities and support of mixed media.
In addition to product enhancements, the company is also re-branding its portfolio: Business Communications solutions and Corporate Communication Solutions become OpenTouch Suite for Mid-Sized and Large Enterprises (MLE), while Office Communication Solutions becomes OpenTouch Suite for Small and Medium Businesses (SMB). Individual products such as OmniPCX Enterprise and OmniPCX Office keep their own branding.

The OpenTouch Suite for MLE and SMB both offer communications platforms that range from pure IP telephony to SIP-based, multimedia communications switching that can operate in distributed or centralized modes, supported in both premise-based and hosted environments.
Newly enhanced features for the OpenTouch Suite include:
• enhanced mobility features for iPad and Android smartphones;
• improved video and multimedia collaboration solutions such as enhanced conferencing; wideband audio, white boarding and annotation;
• video integration of LifeSize endpoints;
• unified-communications-as-a-service model enabling cloud services;
• OmniPCX Enterprise and OmniVista 8770 virtualized on VMware; and
• a software-based Session Border Controller (SBC).
Commenting in a statement, Eric Penisson, vice president of communications solutions, Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise, said, “The OpenTouch Suite expansion is fully aligned with our execution strategy to help businesses change the conversation.
“The financial benefit of not losing existing investments in legacy equipment, coupled with the ability to deploy solutions in any model, from premises to cloud, is instrumental in helping IT departments achieve their services and financial objectives.”
