Today we hit the wires with merger and acquisition news from Broadvox and GENBAND: Broadvox and Cypress Communications have completed their merger while GENBAND has completed its acquisition of Cedar Point Communications. The companies had announced merger plans in October last year.

Broadvox provides integrated and managed VoIP services to SMB, enterprise, and carrier customers over global VoIP networks and prior to the merger it served more than 300 telecommunications carriers over 3,500 businesses, which transport more than 12 billion minutes annually. Cypress Communications also targets the small-to-medium enterprise (SME) market with range of fully hosted solutions including its hosted VoIP and hosted unified communications services.

Together, Broadvox and Cypress will “deliver hosted Unified Communications and SIP Trunking to SMBs and Enterprise customers [over] … one of the nation’s largest VoIP networks, providing 24×7 support and service to more than 10,000 business customers and hundreds of thousands of users,” according to a prepared statement from Andre Temnorod, chairman and CEO at Broadvox.

Among the synergies coming out of the merger, Cypress use the Broadvox network backbone for direct origination and termination of voice traffic and Broadvox gains the ability to enhance its carrier, SMB and SME offerings with the Cypress Communications’ unified communications suite of services.

In other M&A activity, GENBAND has acquired Cedar Point Communications, a company that has focused on delivering IP switching solutions to cable service providers. With the acquisition, GENBAND gains major Tier 1 customers through Cedar Point’s 7.5 million lines in service globally. Among Cedar Point’s customers: Comcast, Liberty, Charter and Kabel Deutschland, along with CLECs, wireless operators and universities.

GENBAND signaled its intentions earlier this month with a prepared statement when Charlie Vogt, CEO of GENBAND, commented, “This acquisition will not only increase our cable market-share, but it will also enhance our overall offering to meet the unique and demanding requirements of the high-growth cable market. Our combined vision of bringing advanced SIP and multimedia services to the cable market is one of the key drivers for this transaction, particularly as cable operators transition to IP.”
