Capping off our coverage of news and announcements from Orlando at VoiceCon 2010, today we’ll highlight separate developments from NEC and Toshiba: NEC released enhancements to its unified communications solutions while Toshiba announced that its Strata CIX system users can now deploy Motorola’s Total Enterprise Access and Mobility Voice-over-wireless-LAN solution.
Capping off our coverage of news and announcements from Orlando at VoiceCon 2010, today we’ll highlight separate developments from NEC and Toshiba: NEC released enhancements to its unified communications solutions while Toshiba announced that its Strata CIX system users can now deploy Motorola’s Total Enterprise Access and Mobility Voice-over-wireless-LAN solution.
NEC’s UC for Enterprise (UCE) feature upgrades include a UCE agent module with split view and agent screen pop functionality for contact center agents; an attendant room direct feature to help NEC’s healthcare and hospitality business clients improve patient and customer satisfaction; UCE Mobility features so users can switch between desk phones to their mobile phones with the touch of a button; enhanced access to presence-enabled directories; and call history from any Web-enabled mobile device.
NEC’s UC for Business (UCB) latest solutions now come with more simplified installation and user-based licensing — including pre-packaging as an embedded application on NEC’s SV8000 communications servers and UNIVERGE Sphericall. Pre-packaged UC and contact center options are designed for 50 or 100 users.
Also at VoiceCon, Toshiba’s Telecommunication Systems Division and Motorola’s Enterprise Mobility Solutions division announced that users of Toshiba Strata CIX IP business communication systems can now deploy Motorola’s Total Enterprise Access and Mobility Voice-over-wireless-LAN (TEAM VoWLAN) solution for mobile voice and data communications. TEAM VoWLAN will be available nationwide through Toshiba’s authorized dealers beginning in April 2010.
Commenting on the announcement in a prepared statement, Brian Metherell, vice president and general manager of Toshiba America Information Systems, said, “Together, the Toshiba and Motorola solution gives both vertical and horizontal Strata CIX users an enterprise-grade VoWLAN smartphone built to withstand all-day, every day use.”
Finally, we also found some news highlights coming out of the CTIA Wireless conference that are relevant for our readers. On the enterprise mobility front, AT&T introduced “WorkBench” as an extension to its Antenna Software-powered hosted Mobile Enterprise Application (MEAP) service. WorkBench is a free native application that can be downloaded from the Apple App Store — allowing businesses to access, manage and secure Web applications that provide mobile access to company data needed for key business processes.
Also at CTIA, LG Electronics announced it is extending into the enterprise and small/midsizemarkets with a new LG Enterprise Application Partner Program. The program will improve interaction with application developers focused on enterprise sales, marketing and new product development, and it will give LG application developer partners improved access to its newest smartphones.
