* Enterprise Mobility as a Service is designed to help organizations more cost-effectively manage global workforces
endif; ?>We’ve covered hosted services such as network-based unified communications and we’ve covered enterprise mobility as part of convergence — today Verizon Business gives us the chance to cover both categories with its delivery of cloud-based “Enterprise Mobility as a Service.” The service is designed to help organizations more cost-effectively manage global workforces.
Verizon Business also concurrently announced a new Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC) offering in Europe.
The “Enterprise Mobility as a Service” uses software and provides a user interface to help employees’ laptops and netbooks detect and connect to the optimal network service. For example, employees can be connected to the network with the strongest signal or the one with the lowest charges. The network options include Wi-Fi, Ethernet, mobile broadband and virtual private network services. The service also provides IT staffs with current inventory reports on all hardware, software and devices.
The mobility service will be available next month in 30 countries and territories in Europe, Asia-Pacific and the Americas, with local billing, currency and support options available. Customers are charged monthly on a per user basis, so they pay for only what they use.
In a separate announcement, Verizon Business has also introduced a new “Global Fixed Mobile Convergence” service designed to reduce mobile phone roaming charges for European workers who make and receive calls outside of their home service area. The Global FMC service also offers a universal phone number with “find me/follow me” features to locate employees on a wireline or mobile phone.
The Global FMC service is powered by software from MobileMax and it determines the most cost-effective routing for mobile calls — either directing calls to Verizon’s global VoIP communications platform or to the customer’s mobile network provider. The new service is available immediately to Verizon Business customers in nine European countries: Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
