Global Crossing recently launched a telepresence solution and collaboration tools with Teliris; Teliris offers a broad portfolio of telepresence services ranging from home telepresence to 3D telepresence to the more traditional telepresence tools with HD video and collaboration enterprise find valuable. The solution is provided on Global Crossing’s MPLS–based glo VPN and tier-one global public Internet network, designed ensuring a reliable and secure connection for premium video communications.
Given the flexibility of the Teliris options, the Global Crossing partnership offers users a range of choices from single-screen personal solutions to fully custom engineered meeting environments. It is fully interoperable with other telepresence systems and traditional videoconferencing services, according to the company’s statement. A Web-based user portal is included so users can schedule and initiate telepresence sessions.
Commenting on the partnership, Brian Washburn, research director at Current Analysis, observed, “Global Crossing is introducing to the market a feature-rich managed telepresence solution based on Teliris’ innovative platform. This new service builds on Global Crossing’s global network and well-established portfolio of managed videoconferencing services, offering enterprise customers a single provider solution for their collaboration and wide-area network requirements.”
According to a statement from Dave Carey, Global Crossing’s chief marketing officer, “telepresence offer represents a milestone in [the company’s] collaboration portfolio.” Global Crossing reports that 85% of its customers reported being “very satisfied” with the value they received from its collaboration services. Global Crossing’s collaboration services grew in volume by 13% in the first half of 2010 compared to the year earlier period, with the increase largely driven by rising energy costs, business travel restrictions and other global economic factors, according to company reports.
